Au Lut Chi and Ian Chu serve as members of the Insurance Appeals Tribunal
Au Lut Chi and Ian Chu have been newly appointed and re-appointed as members of the Insurance Appeals Tribunal, pursuant to section 2 of Schedule 10 to the Insurance Ordinance (Cap. 41), from July 26, 2023, to July 25, 2025.
The Insurance Appeals Tribunal is a statutory tribunal established under the Insurance Ordinance (Cap. 41) to review specified decisions made by the Insurance Authority.
We are pleased to announce that our members Lau Wan Ching and Ian Chu have passed the 3rd Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Grater Bay Area (“GBA”) Legal Professional Examination. The GBA Legal Professional Examination is a pilot measure that allows Hong Kong lawyers with 5 or more years of practice, after passing the examination and completing the training, to practise PRC law in civil and commercial legal matters in the 9 cities in the GBA.
Au Lut Chi and Kyra P.S. Kung of Gilt Chambers have co-annotated the recently released Butterworths Hong Kong Employees’ Compensation Handbook – Seventh Edition and The Annotated Ordinances of Hong Kong: Employees’ Compensation Ordinance (Cap. 282).
These two practitioner publications cover the latest development and case law on the Employees’ Compensation Ordinance (Cap. 282), including the Employees’ Compensation (Amendment) Ordinance 2021 which has come into effect since July 2, 2021. The law is amended to cover situations where an employee is injured or dies as a consequence of an accident while commuting to or from work during periods of “extreme conditions” resulting from a super typhoon or other natural disaster of a substantial scale.

Kyra was called to the Bar in 2022. She is developing a broad civil and criminal practice with emphasis on personal injuries, contentious probate, matrimonial and commercial matters. Her recent experience on personal injuries was to advise a plaintiff in a fatal accident.

Michelle joined Chambers after completing her pupillage with Mr. John Marray, Mr. Jon Wong, Mr. Kenneth Lam and Ms. Emily Cheung. Prior to joining the Bar, Michelle has worked a few years in both local and International law firms as a paralegal. She has experience in intellectual property, matrimonial, IPO, personal injury, bankruptcy, construction and infrastructure matters. She is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.
Hannah obtained her LLB and PCLL from the University of Hong Kong. She joined Gilt Chambers in 2022. She had served marshalship to G Lam J (as the Hon Mr. Justice Lam JA then was) and will be serving marshalship to the Hon Mr. Justice Zervos JA at the early stage of her practice. Hannah had appeared as a sole advocate at the District Court and as a led junior during pupillage and limited practice. During her studies, she worked part-time at the HKU Clinical Legal Education Office and had experiences working with various silks, law firms, the Legal Aid Department and the Duty Lawyer Service. She also assisted in offering pro bono legal services in cases of diverse nature ranging from general civil to criminal appeal to the Court of Final Appeal. She is capable of providing written submissions and conducting hearings in both English and Chinese. She accepts instructions in all areas of Chambers’ work.
