Lau Wan Ching 劉韻清

Ms. Lau Wan Ching was called to the Bar of Hong Kong in 2007. As a barrister-at-law, Ms. Lau’s areas of specialization (civil practice) in her legal profession include family, broadcasting and media, company, contracts, land and property, personal injury, mediation, mental health, sale of goods etc. She is also experienced in conducting criminal litigation (criminal practice), acting for prosecution as counsel on fiat or acting as defence counsel to defend in criminal cases (including traffic and departmental summons).

In addition, Ms Lau was qualified as accredited mediator in 2010. Now, she is the Mediator under Integrated Mediation Office (West Kowloon) of the Judiciary; Mediator under the Listed Accredited Mediators for Building Management for Mediation Co-ordinator’s office of Lands Tribunal; Mediator of Hong Kong Mediation Accreditation Association Limited; Listed mediator of Hong Kong Bar Association and the Mediator of the Joint Mediation Helpline Office.

From year 2013 onwards, Ms. Lau is appointed and served as chairperson/adjudicator/member in various statutory appeal boards and disciplinary panel by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, China including HKSAR Inland Revenue Board of Review Panel, the Disciplinary Panel A of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants, HKSAR Registration of Persons Tribunal, HKSAR Torture Claims Appeal Board, HKSAR Buildings Appeal Tribunal Panel, the HKSAR Land Survey Disciplinary Board Panel, Hong Kong War Memorial Pensions Appeal Board, HKSAR Obscene and Indecent Articles Panel, the HKSAR Appeal Panel (Housing) and HKSAR Liquor Licensing Board.

Ms. Lau had equipped with ample teaching experience. From year 2000 onwards, she had engaged with giving lectures to departments of the HKSAR Government i.e. the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department and also the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, also delivering CPD courses or professional seminar / workshop to private sectors in relation to lands and building management, landlord and tenancy, court procedure and practice, judicial review, criminal law and road traffic offence, copyright, competition law and trade description, risk management and social media administration, etc.

Ms. Lau also had experience in teaching public health and law, also commercial law and media law for the bachelor and master degree courses in the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Shue Yan University within 2015 to 2022. She was the co-author of the Annotated Ordinances of Hong Kong: Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance (Cap 59), 1st issue, LexisNexis, Hong Kong and of the Annotated Ordinances of Hong Kong: Road Traffic Ordinance (Cap 374), 1st issue, LexisNexis, Hong Kong.

Before switching her career and joining the legal profession, Ms. Lau worked as senior journalist and news anchor in several well-known local broadcasting media in Hong Kong for more than a decade including News and Information Services Division of Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB), News Channel of Cable TV, also News Department of Asia Television. Therefore, she is equipped with strong background in media law.
