Julian has nearly 30 years of experience of heavyweight commercial dispute resolution in Hong Kong, and across Asia Pacific, the Middle East, and Europe. Sums in dispute in his cases vary from small to in excess of USD 2 billion. He is particularly well known for his specialist practices in arbitration, and also in relation to construction and engineering disputes. He is recognised as one of the world’s leading construction lawyers.

In addition to acting as counsel, Julian also regularly sits as an arbitrator in both commercial and construction cases. He has sat both as a sole arbitrator and on three-member Tribunals under HKIAC, UNCITRAL, DIAC and LCIA rules.

Further to a substantial domestic Hong Kong practice, Julian has been involved with disputes in Macau, PRC, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, Fiji, Guam, India, Pakistan, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Kuwait, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Yemen, Mali, Egypt, Sierra Leone, Albania, Czech Republic, France, Belgium, Brazil, Turkey, and the United Kingdom.

Julian has conducted disputes under a variety of common law and civilian legal systems, and under most forms of International Arbitration Rules (including ICC, UNCITRAL, LCIA, SIAC, DIAC, KLRC).

In addition to acting as counsel, Julian also regularly sits as an arbitrator in both Asia-Pacific and also the Middle East.

He was called to the Bar in England in 1990 before joining the Construction Disputes department of Pinsent Masons in London in 1993. He moved to Hong Kong in 1998. He left Pinsent Masons as a partner in 2009, and was called to the Hong Kong bar in 2010.
